The Butterfly in the Bush

This is a Cabbage White Butterfly (or, according to Wikipedia (unsourced), the “Imported Cabbage Worm”). Several of these were flitting about the yard.

In trying to find a comprehensive list of butterflies common to Long Island, I came across this NY Times article from 1913, regarding the “war” between nature and progress: Railroad Wars on Caterpillars that Delay Trains.
