The haunt of the night, this barn owl was particularly active on my last trip to the Quogue Wildlife. Usually, he sits in the same spot, staring in the same direction. This time, he was… well, in the same spot, but hopping around.

The Snowy Owl

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m a big Harry Potter fan. I’ve read all the books at least three times, and I can’t wait to see the next new movies.

So it was with some excitement that I approached the habitat of the snowy owl, whom I secretly called Hedwig in my head. Yes, the snowy owl can sometimes be seen on Long Island. But no, I have never seen it myself outside of zoos and refuges.
