The Nest in the Window Box

leave a comment »

Found in a window box just outside our living room, tucked behind artificial flowers, was a sweet little nest made of leaves and natural debris. Not a clue what type of bird built it, as the parent-to-be has yet to be back to it (did a feral cat end the birds’ plans?), but my mother thinks it’s one of “those little grey birds” that are always hanging around.

The nest itself seems to be set on its side, and has a fairly small opening to what looks to be a fairly deep cavern. (Is there specific terminology to a nest?)

This is not the first time a bird has built its nest among the artificial flowers. Two years ago a clutch was hatched in the same box — I believe then it was a robin’s nest.

Another view.
