The Egret in the Reeds

The egrets have returned to the duck pond, wending their way through the reeds at the edges to hunt the fish that inhabit the waters. It was an unusual treat to see this one on the north side of the pond, in the reeds that the swans usually claim.

The Bird of Prey

Anybody who’s been reading this blog for a while knows how much I love the duck pond, and how when the weather warms up I spend hours sitting and watching the local wildlife. I was doing just this after riding my bike for the first time in months when I suddenly saw a large, dark bird spiral down and hit the water near a group of ring-necked ducks. I wish I had been ready for it.

I managed to get my camera up in time to snap a few blurry, out of focus shots of it flying back to its perch with its meal. I’m almost 99% sure it’s an osprey, despite the fact that I’ve never seen one hunt there before. A link to the original size if you’d like to see more upclose and personal and tell me what you think.
