The Snow Lined Canal

Recently I went looking for a black crowned night heron. My mother had the good fortune to spot it not once but twice in the past few weeks, and so she and I headed out to see if we could spot it again. We took Dune Road, from the Jessup Ln bridge in Westhampton Beach to the end of the road in Hampton Bays.

Somewhere in the middle we saw this canal, with tons of seagulls and some sort of diving duck (too far away to be positively identified, in person or through the photographs), but no black crowned night heron. Ahh well, at least I know there’s one around.

I can’t really remember where exactly this point was — it was off one of the bridges along South Country Rd, either in Remsenburg or Speonk.
