The Muskrat in the Marsh

Imagine my astonishment when, searching for my favorite avians at the duck pond, I saw this little guy swimming straight towards me! I believe this is a muskrat and not a beaver based on the shape of its tail (which, admittedly is under water through most of the series of photos I took), but I am not very well versed in semi-aquatic rodents, so if anyone else out there knows better, please leave a comment.

It had no concern of me, nor of the ducks swimming nearby, and in fact it charged from one set of reeds near the road to the other fairly evenly. I had hoped to see where it went from there, but it moved too quickly for me or else hid on the other side of the reeds where I could not see.
