The Duck Coming in for a Landing

with 2 comments

There’s a particular pond on the Westhampton Beach village/Quiogue border that locals adore — in the summer, it is a wildlife haven, the perfect place to walk to with young children, in winter, simply the ice pond. If you’ve ever stopped on the side of the road by the pond, the look on this duck’s face is very familiar to you — any bird within earshot immediately stops what he or she is doing to fly down to the roadside in the hopes of getting food. (Again, bad to feed wildlife, and this pond does have signs saying please don’t.)
